Pisos Saludables “Healthy floors” to improve the lives of families in San Juan Sacatepéquez and El Progreso.

Promoting a healthy housing and environment strategy as a mechanism to improve living conditions for families is imperative. Pisos Saludables is a contribution, from Fundación Carlos F. Novella, to the women who have been part of the Better Families Program and who have been trained in Food and Nutritional Security.

Recognizing that every family requires a dignified environment to grow physically, mentally and emotionally, makes us sensitive to improve housing for people’s wellbeing.

A floor in proper conditions can be the difference between a healthy life or a series of gastrointestinal and respiratory complications.

Under this principle, the Carlos F. Novella Foundation has delivered to 1,719 women, 20 square meters of material to cast the main area of their homes; this in recognition of their participation, effort, and perseverance in the “Mejores Familias” program “Better Families”.

The beneficiary families receive 42 bags of Concrete 3001 to improve their homes.

In terms of health, it reduces the incidence of diarrhea, parasites, and anemia in children under five years of age, which has a significant impact on children’s weight and height, favoring physical and cognitive development. In terms of housing quality, a cement floor significantly improves infrastructure, increases the value of the home, and makes it a safe space by reducing exposure to pests, insects, and other dangerous vermin. From an economic point of view, it reduces the investment in the health of all family members.
